Crude Oil

An example of crude oil in a glass container.

Crude oil is the form many fuels and lubricants start out as; the crude oil is refined into various hydrocarbon materials, such as diesel fuel or gasoline. It also can be made into lubricants of various viscosities. The cost of extracting crude oil is the first cost used to determine the price of gasoline, though motor oil has a more stable price due to the slower rate of consumption compared to production, and the opportunity to recycle it.
